President Ilves sent his condolences to the Polish Head of State

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves sent his condolences to Polish Head of State Lech Kaczyński today in connection with death of Polish historian and politician Bronisław Geremek yesterday.

“It is with great sadness that I learned of the tragic death of a great son of Poland, a great European and a dear friend and colleague, Bronisław Geremek,” President Ilves wrote in his message of condolence.

According to the Estonian Head of State, Although in grief, we have to be grateful for the opportunity that life has given us - to have known him and shared his passion of life and vision of freedom. “The freedom that Europe enjoys today, we owe greatly to people like Bronisław. In deepest sorrow, please allow me to convey to you, the Polish people as well as the loved ones of Bronisław Geremek, my deepest condolences.”
