The Indonesian Ambassador presented his credentials to the President of the Republic

09.06.2008

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves received Harry Purwati, the Ambassador of Indonesia, who presented his credentials on 5 June at Kadriorg.

At the meeting, the Head of State thanked Indonesia for the stipends within the framework of the Darmasiswa Program that allow Estonian university students to travel to Indonesia in order to become acquainted with the local language, culture, and art.

“The convergence of two countries actually starts from personal contacts. I am glad that you are providing our young people with an opportunity to broaden their horizons, and I invite Indonesian students to come and study at our universities,” President Ilves said.

Estonia’s business ties with Indonesia are currently still modest, but Ambassador Purwati and President Ilves saw opportunities for development, especially in the field of tourism, and also felt it important that cooperation be developed in the field of information technology.

Ambassador Purwati resides in Helsinki.
