The President of the Republic’s Cultural Foundation announced the competition for the Young Cultural Figure Award

The President of the Republic's Cultural Foundation announced the competition for the Young Cultural Figure Award with a 75,000-kroon prize.

The prize is intended for Estonian cultural figures under 35 years of age, whose artistic achievements have found broad recognition and whose work and cultural activities have significantly contributed to the promotion of Estonia and its culture in the world. The Young Cultural Figure Award is financed by Toomas Luman, a Member of the Cultural Foundation Board.

The deadline for submitting applications is 16 May 2008. Candidates can be proposed by the youth cultural figures themselves, their advisors, teachers, employers, as well as members of the Cultural Foundation Board.

In order to apply, a written application must be submitted along with personal data and a short biography (name, address, education, and professional activities), a description of creative activities and recommendations from at least two recognized cultural figures or one creative association and one recognized cultural figure.

The Young Cultural Figure Award will be bestowed for seventh time. In previous years, the recipients of the Young Cultural Figure Award have included ballerina Luana Georg (2007), composer Helena Tulve (2006), director Jaanus Rohumaa (2005), conductor Anu Tali (2004), literary critic Jan Kaus (2003) as well as composer Tõnu Kõrvits and folk musician Krista Sildoja (2002).
