President Toomas Hendrik Ilves presented the Latvian Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis with the Order of the Cross of St. Mary's Land 1st class which was bestowed on him on the eve of Estonian Independence Day.

“This represents the thanks and recognition of the Estonian state for you as one of the initiators of Baltic cooperation during the days when the independence of countries was being restored, and of course, for the promotion of Estonian-Latvian relations and the support that Estonia has always received from you,” said President Ilves.
