President Ilves: the most powerful cultural event of 2007 was this summer’s Schoolchildren’s Song and Dance Festival

Yesterday, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves invited the organizers of the 2007 Song and Dance Festival to Kadriorg, in order to thank them for the most memorable cultural event of the ending year.

According to the Head of State, Song and Dance Festivals are one of the cornerstones of Estonian culture—thousands of performers, in perfect synchronization, present what they have learned during years to thousands of spectators. The President found that this is uniquely powerful and unusual in our cultural space and considering our reserved northern nature.

“The Estonian people need this festival,” said President Ilves to the gathering, wishing them strength to continue this laudable and beautiful work.
