President of the Republic: Valga County has vigor and enterprise

05.10.2007

“I was pleasantly surprised by the general positive attitude that I have experienced during these two days—people have a hopeful attitude toward the future, they believe in Valga County,” said President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, as he ended his visit to Valga County today.

Valga County is not the periphery, confirmed the Head of State, recognizing the vigor and enterprise of its people.

“It’s always pleasant to encounter such an attitude, especially outside of Tallinn. It is good medicine against negativism and whining,” said President Ilves. “It shows that we can manage.”

During two days, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Evelin Ilves visited many businesses in Valga County, met with local government leaders, and the promoters of local life.

Today, the Head of State visited the Valga-Valka border checkpoint, where a discussion was held on Estonian-Latvian cooperation and the challenges that will follow accession to the Schengen visa zone. He also spoke to members of the Valga Brigade of the Defense League, and visited the Taul family at Torupilli Farm.

President Ilves visited AS Ritsu, which produces log houses, and also designs and products woodworking equipment. “Such innovative companies will be sustaining a large part of the Estonian economy in the future,” said President Ilves.
