03.10.2007

At today’s meeting between President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Thomas Hammarberg, the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, the importance of the Council of Europe as a regulative organization was discussed.

“This importance has not decreased and we must not allow the Council of Europe to devaluate the members states through deviations from the norms jointly established in the Council of Europe,” said the Estonian Head of State.

At the meeting, the situation in Estonia’s prisons and questions related to the citizenship of children born to stateless parents in Estonia were also discussed.
