President Ilves will participate in a foreign policy conference in Visby

Today, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves will fly to the Swedish island of Gotland to participate in an international foreign policy conference in Visby, which will deal with developments in northeast Europe.

The Estonian Head of State was invited by Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt and Margaretha af Ugglas, the Chairman of the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation and former Swedish Foreign Minister.

High-level representatives from Austria, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Greece, Lithuania, the US, Russia, Georgia, Ukraine, and other countries will attend the conference.

President Ilves will participate in the discussion about the influence of the European Union and the United States on northeast Europe and the European Union Neighborhood Policy.

In Visby, the Estonian Head of State will make a presentation on the topic, “The End of the Post-Cold-War Era”, and will give a joint press conference with Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt.

President Ilves will arrive back in Estonia on the afternoon of September 15th.
