Yesterday in Tallinn, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves thanked the members of the Grandparents’ Association who participated for the third year in the traffic safety project entitled “Help Children Safely Cross the Road” at the beginning of the school year.

“Your concern and enterprise helped your grandchildren, and all boys and girls, to reach school safely at the beginning of September,” said the Head of State. “During the last few weeks, I have repeatedly spoken about the recklessness and arrogance in our traffic. However, your activity is a model of consideration and responsibility.”

President Ilves said that he is sure that the fine volunteer grandparents who helped children safely cross streets during the first week of school will not abandon their mission during the remaining school year.

“Maybe you will not have a stick in your hand, or be wearing a safety vest, but you will be providing support and help to the children moving in traffic all the same,” said the Head of State.
