President of the Republic: The European Union should stand up for Georgia

07.08.2007

Today, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili phoned President Ilves, and asked for Estonia's support for forceful and purposeful action to protect Georgia.

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves called yesterday's air attack on the territory of Georgia unwarranted and a step that brutally trampled on Georgian sovereignty.

"A rapid, exhaustive and objective international investigation is needed to ascertain all the circumstances related to this event," said Estonian Head of State.

"I call upon the presiding country of the European Union to take this incident very seriously and not to be as apathetic as after the helicopter attack that befell Georgia in March," said President Ilves.
