President Ilves presented the Young Cultural Figure Award to ballerina Luana Georg

Yesterday in Kadriorg, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves presented the Young Cultural Figure, which the President of the Republic’s Cultural Foundation assigned to Luana Georg, a ballet soloist with the Estonian National Opera.

When presenting the award to Luana Georg, President Ilves said that ballet has always been very popular in Estonia, although the artists in this field could be acknowledged more often. “I am especially happy that you have been successful in combining family life and first-rate ballet.”

The prize is being awarded for the sixth time. In previous years, the prize has been presented to composer Tõnu Kõrvits, folk musician Krista Sildoja, literary critic Jan Kaus, conductor Anu Tali, director Jaanus Rohumaa, and composer Helena Tulve. Toomas Luman, member of the Cultural Foundation Supervisory Board, finances the 75,000-kroon Young Cultural Figure Award.
