Estonian people will meet the Emperor of Japan at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds on May 24th

Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan will be on an official visit to Estonia on May 24 and 25, 2007. Within the framework of the visit, the couple will attend a concert of youth choirs at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds with the Estonian Head of State.

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves said the visit of the Japanese Emperor is a great honor for Estonia.

A formal reception ceremony and meeting with President Toomas Hendrik Ilves will take place on Thursday, May 24th in Kadriorg. Estonian Television will transmit a live broadcast of the reception ceremony.

After the meeting between the Heads of State, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and his wife will host a formal luncheon in honor of the Japanese imperial couple at the Kadriorg Art Museum, and thereafter, proceed to the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds to attend a Youth Song Festival. A meeting with the Mayor of Tallinn is also planned.

The Emperor and Empress of Japan will arrive in Estonia from the Kingdom of Sweden, and after visiting Estonia, the couple will continue on to Latvia, Lithuania, and the United Kingdom.

The Office of the President thanks all the local governments and companies that offered to help fill the schedule of the Japanese imperial couple and that invited them to visit. Unfortunately, the visit will only last one day and it will not be possible to go everywhere.
