President of the Republic has invited the new members of Riigikogu to the opening session on 2nd April 2007

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves signed a resolution today whereby he convenes the XI composition of Riigikogu, elected on 4th March, to the opening session on 2nd April at 3PM.

“I hope that new Riigikogu will be characterised by exemplary political culture, diligence, co-operation and mutual respect between the opposition and coalition in power,” declared President Ilves after signing the resolution. “As well as the due fastidiousness regarding the executive power, appropriate for the distinguished legislators of a parliamentary republic. Furthermore, I believe that new Riigikogu will sharpen their vision directed to the future – future beyond the four years of authority, helping us further towards the greater Estonia.”

According to the Head of the State, there are no doubts whatsoever in the new parliament’s ability to pay attention to the very events surrounding Estonia and how they have impact on us, and to distinguish what Estonia in turn can be involved in.

The President of the Republic will open the first session of the new composition of Riigikogu and present a commencement address.
