President of the Republic gave a class at the Tallinn Ühisgümnaasium

01.03.2007

The President of the Republic gave a class in European cultural history at the Tallinn Ühisgümnaasium today. The class was part of the “Young People to School” program. The goal of the program is to acknowledge the role of teachers and improve the standing of the teaching profession.

At the end of the class, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves told the pupils that he has worked as a teacher and therefore knows and understands the profession. He declared that he is happy to share his knowledge with young people and enjoys speaking to high school students. The President of the Republic called upon young people to study to be teachers, because it is an interesting and laudable occupation. The President ended his presentation with the words—the Estonian state is smarter when our people are smarter.

After the class, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves attended the performance of the science bus, or Big Dipper mobile laboratory, in the school’s auditorium. At the end of the performance, the President thanked the students who performed and expressed his hope that these humorous and interesting performances help more young people to discover the natural sciences.
