President of the Republic calls upon all citizens to vote in the Riigikogu elections

27.02.2007

Today at Tallinn University, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves voted in the advance poll of the Riigikogu elections.

The Head of State again called upon all citizens to vote in the Riigikogu elections, either in the advance poll that lasts until February 28th or on Election Day, March 4th.

President Ilves, who waited in line to get his ballot, expressed satisfaction that there were many voters at the election precinct, although according to opinion polls, 45-50 percent of citizens might not vote in the Riigikogu election.

The Head of State called not voting figuratively aggression against the Estonian state and repeated his thoughts from the Independence Day speech—our forefathers went to fight in the War of Independence in order to be able to make a choice and by not voting now we demonstrate contempt and disrespect toward our forefathers.
