Today in Kadriorg, United States Ambassador Aldona Zofia Wos made a farewell visit to President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, who thanked the Ambassador for her good work and especially for her personal contribution to the organization of United States President George W. Bush’s visit to the Estonia. As recognition of the Ambassador’s service, President Ilves presented her with the Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana, First Class.

According to the Estonian Head of State, the relations between Estonian and the United States have been stable and strong since Estonia became independent. President Ilves thanked the U.S. for never recognizing the annexation of Estonia by the Soviet Union.

The United States Ambassador thanked the President of the Republic for the honor conferred upon her, by saying that the time she has spent in Estonia has been special for her. I am glad that I was able to contribute to the development of relations between the U.S. and Estonia, said Ambassador Wos.

At the meeting, the development of civil society in Estonia, which the Ambassador has tried to assist, was discussed, as was educational cooperation, primarily the exchange of college students.
