The President of the Republic met with the President of Ukraine

Today, Viktor Yushchenko, President of Ukraine, and Mrs. Katryna Yushchenko arrived on official visit to Estonia. They were greeted in Kadriorg by the President of the Republic of Estonia and Mrs. Evelin Ilves.

At today’s meeting between the Estonian and Ukrainian Presidents, Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Viktor Yushchenko, the Heads of State focused on cooperation with the European Union and NATO and relations between the two countries.

According to President Ilves, Estonia is ready to share with Ukraine its experiences in negotiating with the European Union and NATO, as well as in concluding free trade agreements. “Our bilateral relations are also very good and are developing vigorously. This will also be supported by the economic cooperation agreement to be signed at the meeting of the Prime Ministers next spring,” said the Estonian Head of State.

President Yushchenko emphasized that Ukraine is very serious about integrating with the European Union and NATO and is very thankful for Estonia’s assistance in this process. According to the Ukrainian Head of State, Ukraine is very interested in developing relations with Estonia, and he is glad that during this visit special attention will be paid to economic and educational relations.

At the meeting, possible cooperation in the field of energy and between the local governments of the two countries was also discussed.

After the meeting, the Estonian and Ukrainian Presidents signed a joint declaration, the text of which is available on the Estonian President’s website at www.president.ee

In the afternoon, the Heads of State will open an Estonian-Ukrainian business seminar organized by Enterprise Estonia in the Ühispank building and meet with university rectors at Tallinn University. In the evening, the President of the Republic will host a formal dinner in honor of President and Mrs. Yushchenko at the Kadriorg Art Museum.

The official visit of the President of Ukraine and Mrs. Yushchenko will continue tomorrow.
