Jaanus Rohumaa was appointed as the Cultural Adviser to the President of the Republic

Today, Jaanus Rohumaa started work as President Toomas Hendrik Ilves’s part-time, non-staff Cultural Adviser.

The Cultural Adviser’s tasks include, among other things, advising the President of the Republic on questions related to culture; making proposals regarding projects, occasions, and other events patronised by the President and tracking the activities of patronised projects; compiling various draft texts related to his field of activity at the behest of the President of the Republic and contextually reviewing edited texts; as well as preparing for meetings of the President of the Republic for which the cultural advisor is responsible in the President of the Republic’s schedule.

Jaanus Rohumaa graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music with a degree in stagecraft and is currently studying for his doctorate in cultural theory at Tallinn University. Jaanus Rohumaa will also continue his work at the Tallinn City Theater, where he works as a director. He also teaches classes at Tallinn University, the Higher Theater School, and the Viljandi Culture Academy.

In 2004, the President of the Republic presented an Order of the White Star, 5th class to Jaanus Rohumaa, and in 2005, he received the Young Cultural Figure Prize of the President of the Republic’s Cultural Fund. Jaanus Rohumaa has also received the Cultural Endowment’s “Live and Shine” scholarship, the Big Dipper Cultural Prize (1997), the prize for best director at the National Drama ’96 Theater Festival and many other prizes.
