08.12.2006

In Kadriorg today, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves met with Anna Fotyga, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland. The future development of Polish-Estonian relations, possible cooperation in the energy field, and cooperation in the European Union, especially regarding neighborhood policies, were discussed at the meeting.

According to the President of the Republic, Estonia places its hopes on Poland regarding many issues in the European Union, since it is the largest member state in the region, and therefore, Poland is often heard better. In the European Parliament, we had very good cooperation with you personally and with our other Polish colleagues, for instance, regarding service directives, and I hope that the same excellent cooperation with your compatriots will continue in the future, said President Ilves.

According to Foreign Minister Fotyga, Poland is very interested in promoting relations with Estonia, especially in the field of economics. The Polish Foreign Minister added that, at the same time, it is important to continue cooperation in the European Union, and more specifically in the Baltic region.
