Ilmar Lepik will become the Economic Counsellor to the President of the Republic

On Monday, November 20, Ilmar Lepik who has previously worked as Head of Central Bank Policy Department of Eesti Pank will become the Economic Counsellor to President Toomas Hendrik Ilves.

The task of Economic Counsellor is to provide the President of the Republic with information about economic matters, to serve the President of the Republic by helping him to perform his constitutional duties and to mediate the President's contacts in the field of economy.

Lepik graduated from the Department of Mathematics at the University of Tartu and studied at the Department of Economics of the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom. Ilmar Lepik has worked in Eesti Pank since 1993 and was the Head of Central Bank Policy Department of Eesti Pank since 2001. Ilmar Lepik has also been a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of Eesti Pank and since 2003 a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the European System of Central Banks.
