16.11.2006

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia Chum Sounry today at Kadriorg who presented his Letter of Credence.

In the words of the President of the Republic he is pleased to greet the first Cambodian ambassador accredited to Estonia. “I believe that with your accreditation to Estonia the exchange of information between our two countries will improve and our knowledge about each other will broaden. This, in its turn, will certainly create new opportunities for our relations,” the Head of State added.

“Estonia would like to learn more about your country and develop Estonian-Cambodian bilateral relations in a friendly manner and respecting each other’s interests. The broadening of economic contacts would certainly create mutually interesting opportunities. I believe that tourism could be an especially promising field for our cooperation,” the President of the Republic said.

In the words of Ambassador Sounry Cambodia’s integration into ASEAN, Estonia’s accession to the European Union and participation of both countries in ASEM have created new opportunities to develop relations between the two countries, both bilaterally and also within the framework of cooperation between the above-mentioned associations. “I would try all my best to maintain and to further strengthen friendly relations and mutual understanding between Estonia and Cambodia,” Ambassador of Cambodia said.
