President Toomas Hendrik Ilves today at Kadriorg met with Jia Quingling, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. The meeting focused on Estonian-Chinese bilateral relations, especially on the promotion of economic and trade relations.

Both sides recognised that Estonian-Chinese relations have been developing well during the last 15 years: there have been several high level visits and mutual understanding is constantly improving. Talking about economic ties Jia Quingling specially singled out development of cooperation in the field of high technology. The President of the Republic confirmed that Estonia was continuously interested in transit of Chinese goods to Europe via Estonia and that both sides would benefit from such cooperation. It was unanimously concluded that inter-enterprise cooperation was a good prerequisite for advancement of relations between the states.

Jia Quingling extended the congratulations and good wishes of the President of the People’s Republic of China to President Ilves for his newly started term of office.

At the end of the meeting Jia Quingling introduced the Chinese Nuctech company that produces mobile container scanners.
