President Toomas Hendrik Ilves received today at Kadriorg the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania Juozas Bernatonis who presented his Letter of Credentials.

In the words of the President of the Republic he was very pleased that the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania was the first ambassador to present his Letter of Credentials to him, as Lithuania is an important partner and friend for Estonia. ''We have had many opportunities to cooperate, but now by joining forces both in the European Union and NATO we have even more possibilities for it,'' the Head of State said.

President Ilves noted that he would like to see that the cooperation between Estonia and Lithuania would deepen in the field of energy and transport. ''Please extend my greetings to the President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus whom I have known for a long time and expect to meet again soon,'' the President of the Republic said.

The Lithuanian Ambassador congratulated the Head of State on becoming the President of the Republic of Estonia and expressed his satisfaction at being the first foreign ambassador to present his Letter of Credential to President Ilves.

''Lithuania appreciates higly the trilateral cooperation among the Baltic states, and thinks that we have to use every opportunity for joint cooperation in international arena and share our experience of solving matters connected with being a member of the European Union, NATO and other international organisations. I am confident that the trilateral cooperation among the Baltic states can be useful for all participants,'' Ambassador Bernatonis said.
