11.10.2006

At today's meeting with the President of the Republic Toomas Hendrik Ilves the senior editor at the daily newspaper Postimees Toomas Sildam accepted an offer to become the Public Relations Adviser to the President.

''There are offers that are very difficult to turn down, especially if they come from the President of the Republic,'' Sildam said. ''In principle, at my new job I will continue the same work that I have done as a journalist -- trying to find out how the state and society function.''

Sildam (44) has worked as a journalist at various newspapers over 20 years, for the last ten years at the daily newspaper Postimees.

Sildam will begin work in the Office of the President on October 23, 2006.
