Toomas Hendrik Ilves was elected President of Estonia on 23 September 2006 by the electoral college in the Estonia Theatre in Tallinn by a vote of 174 votes in favour. President Ilves took the oath of office in the Riigikogu on 9 October 2006.

On 29 August 2011, Toomas Hendrik Ilves was elected the President of the Republic of Estonia during the first round of voting in the Riigikogu with 73 votes. President Ilves took his second oath of office on 10 October 2011.

The President was elected for a term of five years.

In assuming the office of President of the Republic, I (given name and surname), solemnly swear to steadfastly defend the Constitution and the laws of the Republic of Estonia, to exercise the power entrusted to me in a just and impartial manner, and to faithfully perform my duties with all of my abilities and to the best of my understanding, for the benefit of the people of Estonia and the Republic of Estonia.
