Dear Singers. Dear People.

Our Song Festival has always been about Freedom, from the first festival one hundred and fifty years ago.

We have sung in celebration of Freedom.
We have sung of the lack of Freedom.
We have sung of our intense yearning for freedom.
And we have been silent, when we could not sing of these things.

We have sung ourselves free.
And we sing to remain free.
For Freedom cannot be silent.
Freedom is our Song.

I declare the 26th Song Festival open.
