President Ilves on a working visit to London

25.11.2013

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves is on a working visit to London today and tomorrow, where he will give an opening speech at the Chatham House conference "Power and Commerce in the Internet Age" and a presentation entitled "The Role of Information and Communications Technology in Promoting Business and Innovation" at the Legatum Institute.

In London, President Ilves will speak about the effect information and communications technology has on various areas, including e-government, and e-services, introducing the successful e-solutions in the public and private sector in Estonia. All these issues related to cyber space, in turn, highlight the issue of personal privacy and challenges to national security, which the Head of State will focus on in his speeches.

At the Chatham House conference, the discussion will focus on power in the digital age, both in international relations as well as on governmental, individual and private sector level. Ideas will be exchanged on how the increasingly widespread movement of information affects economic activity and how it influences the global economy as a whole.

President Ilves's audience will include leaders of various fields, including academics, politicians, journalists, diplomats, businessmen and representatives of civil society.

During his visit, the Head of State will also meet with the British Minister for Digital Affairs, Francis Maude.

The President will return to Estonia late on Tuesday.
