President Ilves congratulates new Pope Francis

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves sent his congratulations to Francis on the occasion of his election to the Papacy.

"I wish you strength and success as the successor of St. Peter, a role of great responsibility. The stability and confidence, as well as the joy that the bishop of Rome radiates globally both to Catholics and non-Catholics is much needed in today's volatile and rapidly changing world," wrote the Estonian head of state.

President Ilves also expressed gratitude to Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI for his Papacy and invited the new Pope Francis to Estonia.
