President Ilves to participate in World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples

The President, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, will tomorrow depart for Hungary to participate in the 6th World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples.

The Estonian Head of State will give a speech on the opening day of the World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples that takes place in the town of Siófok and will visit Collegium Fenno-Ugricum in Badacsonytomaj.

The Presidents of Estonia and Finland, who are attending the congress, will be hosted by the Head of State of Hungary, János Áder, who is also giving a dinner to honour his guests. Meetings with the Speaker of Hungarian Parliament, László Kövér, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, János Martonyi, will also take place.

"Language and Nation" is the theme of the 6th World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples that takes place in the town of Siófok from 5 to 7 September. The representatives of almost all the Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic people are expected to arrive at the congress. The Estonian delegation consists of 20 people, including scientists, journalists, cultural workers, cultural heritage protection specialists and representatives of other fields. The delegation is being led by Tõnu Seilenthal, Associated Professor of Uralic Languages and Hungarology of University of Tartu.

President Ilves will return to Estonia in the evening of 5 September.
