President Toomas Hendrik Ilves sent a letter of condolences to the Head of State of Israel, Reuven Rivlin, on the death of former president of Israel and Nobel Peace Prize winner Shimon Peres.

The Estonian Head of State described him as an influential and outstanding leader, one of the founders of the state of Israel and warden of the welfare and peace of the region and its people.

In his letter of condolences, President Ilves also recalled Shimon Peres's visit to Tallinn in 2007, when a Jewish synagogue was opened here.

"On behalf of the Estonian people and myself, I would like to express our sincere condolences to you and to the people of Israel," wrote President Ilves in his letter of condolences.
