Today, at the proposal of the Prime Minister, Taavi Rõivas, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves made cabinet changes to the Government of the Republic – he released the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marina Kaljurand, from her role as Minister of Foreign Affairs and appointed the current Minister of Education and Research, Jürgen Ligi, as Minister of Foreign Affairs and the former member of the Riigikogu, Maris Lauri, to the position of Minister of Education and Research.

The Head of State thanked Marina Kaljurand, who filed her resignation last week, for her long-term work in the foreign service of the Republic of Estonia and most recently, as Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister, Taavi Rõivas, for his swiftness in filling the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs.

"Maris Lauri and Jürgen Ligi have begun well as ministers, yet I am quite sure that they will not require need a long period of familiarisation given their considerable experiences," said President Ilves.
