President Ilves: we feel the tragic proximity of hatred and the cruelty of terrorists

Late yesterday evening the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received confirmation from the French authorities that two Estonian citizens were among the victims of the terrorist attack in Nice. President Toomas Hendrik Ilves expresses his condolences to the families of the deceased, their relatives and friends.

"Unfortunately, Estonia is now one of the many countries that has experienced the tragic proximity of hatred and the cruelty of terrorists. This is painful and sad.

The tragedy in Nice had lasted several long days for many of my fellow Estonians, and our hopes were dashed late last night when the death of a loving grandmother and a talented young man were confirmed.

My deepest condolences to the families of the deceased, their relatives and friends. I lower my head in sorrow."
