President Toomas Hendrik Ilves confirmed at his meeting with Pavlo Klimkin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, who arrived in Estonia on a visit, that Estonia would do everything possible for the European Union to be on the same page when assessing the current reforms in Ukraine and the situation in Ukraine in general.

"This also applies to the simplified visa regime; we agree with the position of the European Union that Ukraine has met all the established requirements. This also refers to the continued EU sanctions against Russia until the provisions of the Minsk Agreements have been implemented," said President Ilves. He described the opening clause of the Minsk Agreements – the achievement of a ceasefire in Eastern Ukraine – as the most important; however, this will require a cessation of Russia-supported aggression in the area.

The Estonian Head of State also reiterated the importance of real reforms on the path to euro-integration, as these will contribute to the general well-being and security of society.
