President Ilves to speak about the future of the European Union – security and the refugee crisis – in Switzerland

17.11.2015

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves will today begin a working visit to Zurich. In the evening, he will give a presentation as an invited guest to influential decision makers in Switzerland and speak about the challenges faced by the future of the European Union, focusing on our security after the terrorist attacks in Paris and the refugee crisis.

The annual symposium, which is organised by Zurich University, is a commemorative event for the so-called Zurich Speech, which was delivered by the former British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, in 1946. Earlier, commemorative speeches have been delivered by Helmut Kohl, the Chancellor of Germany; Henry Kissinger, the US Secretary of State; Aleksander Kwaśniewski, the Head of State of Poland; Romano Prodi, the President of the European Commission, Richard von Weizsäcker, the President of Germany.

Influential politicians, academicians and entrepreneurs will be there to hear President Ilves in Zurich.
